(August 31, 1929, White Earth Reservation, Bimidji, Minnesota-June 19, 1992). Native American Medicine Man and Shaman. Born Vincent LaDuke. Known as Gheezis Mokwa. Ojibwa. Father of Winona LaDuke, Green Party candidate for Vice President of the United States, 1996. Experienced visions as a youth. Court-martialed a spent six months in prison for evading military service after basic training. Actor. Sought to teach indigenous wisdom to non-Native Americans. Founder and Medicine Chief of the Bear Tribe Medicine Society, 1970.
