TAKES

FAREWELL, MY LOVELY! (EXCERPT) [ABSTRACT]

TAKES about the writer’s Model T... Writer describes crank-starting the engine... Often, if the emergency brake hadn’t been pulled all the way back, the car advanced on you the instant the first explosion occurred and you would hold it back by leaning your weight against…

Les parfums ne font pas frissonner sa narine;

a fish /// marianne moore

The Fish

wade
through black jade.
Of the crow-blue mussel-shells, one keeps
adjusting the ash-heaps;
opening and shutting itself like

an
injured fan.
The barnacles which encrust the side
of the wave, cannot hide
there for the submerged shafts of the

sun,
split like spun
glass, move themselves with spotlight swiftness
into the crevices—
in and out, illuminating

the
turquoise sea
of bodies. The water drives a wedge
of iron throught the iron edge
of the cliff; whereupon the stars,

pink
rice-grains, ink-
bespattered jelly fish, crabs like green
lilies, and submarine
toadstools, slide each on the other.

All
external
marks of abuse are present on this
defiant edifice—
all the physical features of

ac-
cident—lack
of cornice, dynamite grooves, burns, and
hatchet strokes, these things stand
out on it; the chasm-side is

dead.
Repeated
evidence has proved that it can live
on what can not revive
its youth. The sea grows old in it.

. . en livre – poème. . . en peinture.

i think i could write forever... /// Antonin Philips 2008

chapter 1

i'd plant a seed-kiss
for you

like a seed
with my lips

will leave it, there
in the palm of my hand ...

...
plant a seed-kiss
on your head

and watch it grow

...
i think i could write for ever ...
and, keep it that way,

write like a bird sings . . .

in early spring. . . .

"i could start a new life just like that!

le rat est fou . . .

sailing around the world. . .

Captain William J. Yonkers

once,
i meant to sail
the seas . . .

on
this
little

dusty boat
we'd been brave the two of us

hitting --

sea-walls ,

twenty feet high
may be more . . .

it was my boat
my wife called it : " petit plaisant "
on account . . .

the house in Hackensack,
she'd bought herself

from a French woman

it was my ship
had a small sail
for show only . . .
two wheels

more of a tug
than a thug ,

with a fancy deck
and this silly
little tuft
on top . . .

i was its Captain
and i loved
the sounds
its paddles made
churning
the cold, icy
waters

we running full steam
up the Hudson River . . .

but the truth
be told

we never left
the pier : the shores
of New Jersey . . .

lit
nights

down by
the smoked eels
docks,

i drank beer
with piss smelling sailors

and rotten
Sea Captains that
swore
like whores . . .

me ship
and i

we'd dreamed of Nantucket
and whales

LITTLE SONGS for gaia /// Gary Snyder

across salt marshes north of
San Francisco Bay
cloud soft grays
blues little fuzzies
illusion structures -- pale blue of the edge,
sky behind,

hawk dipping and circling
over salt marsh

ah, this slow-paced
systems of systems, whirling and turning

a five-thousand-year span
about all that a human can figure,

grasshoper man in his car driving through.

une petite vache généreuse

cette petite vache
est l'original qui
a déclenché un jour...
tous les livres que
j'ai écris...
le premier étant
l'histoire

this little cow is the original that started my book-writing... taking pictures of "her" didn't seem to suit her at all... was i violating her privacy?
